We are in a world where many people do not want to hear the truth. They want the prophets to be preaching what they like, and not what God wants. Saint Paul reveals to us that in 2 Tim. 4:3-4: “For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths.” Many of us who are priests have failed God because we are no longer understanding the major aim of our vocation. The first reading presents the ordeals of the prophet Jeremiah. A prophet is a person who speaks God’s truth to others. He is a person who receive God’s word and gives it to the people. They hated Jeremiah because he was telling them the truth. Jeremiah started having his ordeals from the day he was called by God (Jer. 1). His ministry prompted plots against him (Jer. 11:21-23). They conspired to kill him, but God saved him and told him that many ordeals were coming. Jeremiah wanted to stop speaking the Word of God, but the Word of God became like fire in his heart (Jer. 20:8-9). Today in the first reading, Jeremiah told his people what God ordered him to say, “Thus says the Lord: Those who remain in this city shall die by means of the sword, starvation, and disease; but those who go out to the Chaldeans shall live. Their lives shall be spared them as spoils of war that they may live. This city shall certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon; he shall capture it.” This message pained the officials of the King Zedekiah, which caused Jeremiah to be put inside a cistern. Vivimos en un mundo donde muchas personas no quieren escuchar la verdad. Quieren que los profetas prediquen lo que les gusta, no lo que Dios quiere. San Pablo nos revela esto en 2 Timoteo 4:3-4: “Porque llegará el tiempo en que los hombres no soportarán más la sana doctrina; por el contrario, llevados por sus inclinaciones, se procurarán una multitud de maestros que les halaguen los oídos, y se apartarán de la verdad para escuchar cosas fantasiosas.” Muchos de nosotros, sacerdotes, le hemos fallado a Dios porque ya no comprendemos el propósito principal de nuestra vocación. La primera lectura presenta los sufrimientos del profeta Jeremías. Un profeta es una persona que comunica la verdad de Dios a los demás. Es una persona que recibe la palabra de Dios y la comunica al pueblo. A Jeremías lo odiaban porque decía la verdad. Jeremías comenzó a tener pruebas desde el día en que fue llamado por Dios (Jer 1). Su ministerio provocó conspiraciones en su contra (Jer 11:21-23). Conspiraron para matarlo, pero Dios lo salvó y le anunció que le aguardaban muchas pruebas. Jeremías quería dejar de predicar la Palabra de Dios, pero esta se convirtió en fuego en su corazón (Jer 20:8-9). Hoy en la primera lectura, Jeremías le comunicó a su pueblo lo que Dios le ordenó: “Dice Yavé: Quien se quede en esta ciudad morirá a espada, o de hambre o de peste; en cambio, el que se entregue a los caldeos, vivirá; aunque pierda todo, salvará la vida. Y también esto es palabra de Yavé: He decidido entregar a Jerusalén en manos del rey de Babel.” Este mensaje dolió a los oficiales del rey Sedecías, quienes obligaron a Jeremías a ser arrojado a un pozo. A gathering of prayer, peace, and sisterhood
"Together in God, with God, and for God, until we meet in Heaven."
The Little Teres of Mary were born on August 27, 2014, as a small Holy Rosary prayer group in Weston, Florida, thanks to the calling Ceciliana Triana felt, and under the spiritual direction of Catholic preacher Felipe Gómez, who fostered the group's birth and growth. With only four women, they began praying in homes and opened their first chat called Praying the Holy Rosary, growing with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Un encuentro de oración, paz y hermandad

Las Teresitas de María nacieron el 27 de agosto de 2014 como un pequeño grupo de oración del Santo Rosario en Weston, Florida, gracias al llamado que sintió Ceciliana Triana, y bajo la dirección espiritual del predicador católico Felipe Gómez, quien impulsó el nacimiento y crecimiento del grupo. Con solo cuatro mujeres, comenzaron rezando en casas y abrieron su primer chat llamado Rezando el Santo Rosario, creciendo con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo.

A parishioner of Saint Katherine Drexel and member of the choir ministry, Mayor Margaret (“Peggy”) Brown has been the Mayor of Weston since 2020, the city’s first female Mayor. She is also the current President-Elect for the Florida League of Mayors.
Prior to her current role as Mayor, she served as City Commissioner. She has also worked in various senior leadership roles in not-for-profit organizations (i.e., Center for Hearing & Communications Florida, COPD Foundation), the field of education (i.e., Nova Southeastern University), and well-known business corporations (i.e., Walgreens Company).
Mayor Brown is a long-time resident of Florida (since late 1950s) and a 25+ year resident of Weston. She is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and is married to Eric Byron Brown, a retired Coast Guard Commander. They are the proud parents of two daughters and grandparents to three grandsons.
Mayor Brown will be speaking to us about her vision in terms of developing our local business community, and the integration of her Catholic Faith in her current local leadership public role.
