Today, we celebrate the solemnity of the mystery at the center of our faith, where everything originates and where everything returns. The mystery of God and His unity, and at the same time, His subsistence in three equal and yet, different Persons. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit: unity in communion and communion in unity. Pope Francis said, ”Our being created in the image and likeness of God-communion calls us to understand ourselves as beings-in-relation, and to live interpersonal relationships in solidarity and reciprocal love. The living God is not a solitary God. The living God is not an isolated God. From all eternity the living God has lived in relationship, indeed, has lived as relationship. At the center of the universe is relationship. From all eternity the living God has been community. From all eternity the living God has been infinitely pleased as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

The mission of the Respect Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami is to defend the sanctity and dignity of all human life, from conception to natural death.

We do this in four main ways:

  1. Public Information and Education: to deepen understanding of the sanctity of human life, the value of each person from conception, and the Church's call to bear witness to life.
  2. Pastoral Care: accompanying women in crisis pregnancies, people who have experienced abortion, the sick, their families, victims of violence, people deprived of their liberty, and all those who suffer.
  3. Public Policies: promoting laws that protect the unborn and the vulnerable, and offering alternatives to abortion and assisted suicide.
  4. Prayer and Worship: as a spiritual pillar, fostering sacramental and community life to establish a culture of life and love.

History of Our Ministry at Saint Katharine Drexel

The Pro-Life Ministry at our parish was born in 2013, when we were still celebrating Mass at the Glades Circle offices. It all began thanks to a volunteer who saw the need and began collecting baby items to take weekly to the Respect Life Center in Ft. Lauderdale.

In 2015, Beatriz Capdevielle, moved by a deep calling to service, joined this mission with the vision of formalizing a ministry. Thus, together with the initial volunteer, they gave life to the Pro-Life Ministry of Saint Katharine Drexel, which Beatriz led with love and dedication for 10 years, until January 2025. That year, Beatriz moved to another city and left the ministry in the hands of Anahí Welschen, a volunteer from the beginning.

Liturgical Catechesis: The Parts of the Mass | Issue 16 / 40

The homily is an intrinsic part of the Liturgy of the Word and as essential to it as are the scriptural proclamations.

Its purpose is to create a bridge between the biblical faith expressed in the readings and the real lives lived in the particular community.

An effective homilist takes the time to know his community and understand what it needs to hear. He studies the readings, prays for the guidance of the Spirit, and works at presenting his words in an organized and interesting way.

Though it is not necessary that the presiding celebrant be the homilist, preaching the homily is reserved to the ordained ministry, and the presider who will later break the bread is the most appropriate person to “break open" God's word.
